Canned temptations
‘José Gourmet’ recreated by the stroke of illustrators coming from the child’s universe
No, these drawings are not supposed to be hung on your living room’s wall. But it sure feels like it. That happens because ‘Gémeo’ Luís is responsible for the design of José Gourmet.
If, at first sight you are in doubt as to what the cans contain, it will soon disappear once you open the package. They are preserved sardines in olive oil with lemon, in tomato or sprinkled with extra virgin biological olive oil.
These are joined by calamari in Ragout sauce, mackerel fillets in olive oil, sticklebacks in pickle sauce, tuna fillets and ventresca tuna. “The idea is to place an old product on the current menu”, explains the illustrator.
And because there is no doubt “tinned products should be part of children’s food”, Gémeo Luís challenges the renowned authors of children’s imagination to invent other fish: André Letria, Cristina Valadas, Marta Madureira, Teresa Lima, Madalena Matoso e Emílio Remelhe, entre outros.
Among the user recommendations included, and to make your mouth water, try these: sardines au gratin with a crust of thyme and parsley, veal escalopes with tuna sauce and sardine risotto with São Jorge cheese and lemon.
The tins can be purchased separately (€2,55 to €10,35) or in a box of four. They are accompanied by a leaflet with récipes created by chef Luís Baena, and sold in gourmet shops.
